I. THE MAGAZINE
About Dear Kafka,
Dear Kafka is a small, independent literary and arts magazine named after a man who cannot write back. It began with a fondness for Franz Kafka, his strange worlds, and the peculiar comfort of recognising yourself in someone else’s pages.
We are interested in fiction, poetry, essays, creative nonfiction, and visual art. Especially the work that makes an ordinary room feel unfamiliar; writing that is tender, uncomfortable, funny in the wrong places, or difficult to put away once you have read it.
The name is an address, not an assignment. You do not have to write about Kafka, imitate him, or even like him to send us something. Issue No. 1 has no theme.
II. THE EDITOR
Majesté Sinclair
Majesté mostly writes about women in very uncomfortable situations. She enjoys jazz played by dead people, vintage movies featuring dead people, and books by dead authors. She hopes that one day she, too, will become one of those beloved dead authors. When asked why she writes, she usually changes the subject.
She edits Dear Kafka and contributes fiction and prose of her own.
